Made-up tales are nothing new. But the way they are spread has. In recent years we have seen conspiracy theories going viral on social media, elections being influenced by outside agents and criminals using personal data to their advantage. Anyone with an internet connection and a phone or computer can create a false message and share it with the world. This creates a sense of mistrust, affecting news media and brands in general.
We want to find out how much Belgians know about fake news, and how big the trust gap actually is. Because only then can we come up with ways to restore trust between the public, media and brands.
